Either this store recently closed, or they just haven't cleaned it... another place where it just looks like they've closed, instead of closed for good.
This part of the mall is, relatively speaking, a newer addition to the mall, added in the late 80s. On the left was a candy shop and concessions; on the right, an optomotrist's office, a clothing store, and the video game arcade.
A view from the south side of the mall, near Sears. Gone from here are the Hallmark store, Waldenbooks, Payless Shoes, and Auntie Anne's.
That's not quite true... men's clothing IS at the store at the north entrance -- but that store is a clearance store. The MAIN store isn't there anymore.
Literally the only sign of life at the mall -- the Sears (even though the E is totally crooked).
Here, you can see the two other stores open (besides Sears and the Dillard's clearance store) -- K-B Toys and GameStop. GameStop was still doing a little bit of business, but K-B was having a going out of business sale.
... this also makes it painfully obvious that they didn't even try to take the letters down when they repainted the storefront.

You can also tell where Payless shoes used to be... at the end of the corridor is 3/4 of the mall's current business. (Dillard's is on the other end.)
Formerly the Waldenbooks, although I think the BOOKS logo there is actually somewhat new. When I was younger, that said WALDENBOOKS instead. (I think.)
The two men there were the only people around at the time, save for the folks at the Dillard's clearance mart. On the right is where Gap used to be; it was also a rather new addition to the mall, opened in the late 90s. (It used to house a cafeteria.)
On the far end is where J.C. Penney used to be; formerly on the left: a tobacconist's and a nail salon. Local auto dealers also used to have cars parked at the far end... and the center part would be where booths would be set up during the holidays.
It looks like not all the signs have been taken down -- a good 6 months after many of these businesses shut down.
I've always wondered why that neon sign proclaiming the food court was lighted on this side, given that going in that direction would take you AWAY from the food court.
Indian Mall never had much success with its food court, truthfully. Apart from Cookie Factory and Corn Dog 7, restaurants came and went every few years -- none of the big name places (Chick-Fil-A, Sbarro, etc.) ever came. A side note: why did the tables and chairs go away as well? There used to be dozens of them there.
These cars were the only ones on this side of the mall -- and I'd be willing to bet that quite a few belonged to employees. You can also see a hastily thrown together CLEARANCE CENTER sign next to the store's main logo.
Here's what's noteworthy about this spot... the restaurant space in the back has never been successful; I think it's been abandoned for the last 10 years or so. Closer to the mall entrance: where Fun City (the mall arcade) used to be.
90% of the time, this parking area would be just as crowded as the main places. I'm not sure if the insurance agent is still there, but this is where most of the mall offices are... and towards the loading dock was an alternate entrance many people used.
The "back entrance" into J.C. Penney's, plus where customers could pick up big items. That dock has been locked up.
